I think most people would agree that Call of Duty 4 is this week's big release (funny that we're now talking about AAA titles coming out on a weekly basis). You don't need me to tell you it's good. I'm pretty sure the media has taken care of that already.

I was a bit surprised to see that Silent Hill 0rigins came out this week on PSP. This title totally snuck up on me. Where was the advertising for this? You'd think for an entirely original PSP iteration of a popular series there'd be something to try to get people's attention. I'm interested in it but it will have to wait. There's too much else coming out this holiday season. I know that companies try to release games in time for the holidays to try to capitalize on the buyer surge but I think we're getting to a point where it can have the opposite effect for certain games. A lot of people are going to pass over many titles, even really good ones, because there are just too many out there. It's saturated. A good game will be successful, just like a good movie gets watched even if it isn't released during the summer blockbuster season. I'd guess that Smash Bros. Brawl won't suffer in the least coming out in February. To force another movie industry parallel, studios examine the competition and schedule their movie release dates accordingly if they think that competing releases will detract from their sales. So why don't game publishers do the same thing? It just doesn't make sense to me. If anybody out there can offer some insight I'd greatly appreciate it.
