EDIT: So if you feel like exercising your creative muscles by playing Drawn to Life you may notice a piece of my artwork contained within. I designed one of the playable
characters. Really, it's true. Thanks to IGN and THQ for picking my character design!
I have not personally played Lair so I can't say for certain if it's a good game or not. However, when the great majority of professional reviewers deride the game with great fervor I'm inclined to
believe that they must be on to something. This makes me pretty sad, actually. I like Factor 5 and I like all their Rogue Squadron games and Lair appeared to be the spiritual successor to that franchise. When Sony began to
send out reviewer's guides in an attempt to apparently convey the pros of Lair that the game itself could not, well, one would think that you just shouldn't do that. It's all just tragic. Reports say that a multitude of
downfalls, both personal and professional, hit the development team throughout the development process. If anything, this debacle should serve as a lesson to continue development on a game for as long as it takes to produce a quality product because
once that game is out the door to reviewers there is nothing that can be done to save it.
Last Saturday was the eighth birthday of the Dreamcast in the US. Can you imagine the Dreamcast still being alive as a main player in the console scene today? As much as I like the Dreamcast, I cannot. Now imagine the PS3 with its purported 10 year life cycle.
That means by the PS3's eigth birthday it should still be going strong with no signs of slowing down for another 2 long years. Of course, the videogame industry is very different now compared to when the Dreamcast launched and the PS2 was able to stay at the top for a long, long time. Nevertheless,
a 10 year life span is a hefty promise.
Stay tuned for updated news later in the week. I may have something neat to report.
