I won't say anything this week about the mechanics of BioShock. I do want to mention the laugh I've been having over all this widescreen/4:3 field of vision stuff. According to the developer, BioShock was made on workstations employing widescreen displays. How you see the game in widescreen is how the developers intended for the game to be seen. However, for the 4:3 display setting they decided they'd just increase the vertical display a bit, resulting in some extra visuals that aren't seen in widescreen mode. Of course this was like a stake through the heart for a group of petty widescreen owners out there. Those who were robbed of all rest and relaxation by the terrifying knowledge that Neanderthals with their primitive square-ish screens were getting more visual real estate than them. What I find especially hilarious are those people who make comments about how they knew something was wrong with the widescreen mode before this 4:3 news came to light. I even saw one person say the widescreen mode made him feel a little dizzy. These have to be some of the most ridiculous arguments ever. There is absolutely no way that someone would have ever complained about the field of vision in the game had nobody mentioned that 4:3 users were "getting more". I think 2K should port BioShock over to cell phones. Those screens are like 11:15 skinny displays, which should really get some people pissed.
